Ukrainian sacred art and architecture on the pages of the Lviv’s periodi cal «Przegląd Аrcheologiczny»

Abstract

The issues of establishment and clarification of certain aspects of the first Lviv specifi-
cally historical periodical «Przegląd Archeologiczny» is researched. Established in 1876 with
educational purposes the periodical was focused on informing about the latest developments in
the field of archeology, and at the same time, researches in various special historical fields and
art history. Exactly on the pages of «Przeglądu Archeologicznego» were published the first,
somewhat amateur, explorations of Ruthenians’ sacred art and architecture as distinct style
that stirred sharp scientific debate and triggered the activation of research in this area.
