Eparchial architects XIX – early XX century (for example Podolia diocese)

Abstract

The article is devoted to one of the most significant aspects in the history of
Ukrainian architecture in the 19th – early 20th century, that is the appearance of a
post of eparchial architect. This fact has been scantily known until the present time.
Officially the first architects of the clerical department appeared in Western prov -
inces of 1832–1835. Among the first position of the post of eparchial architect was
introduced in Podolia province. Later the post of eparchial architect became more
common and in the second half of the 19th century an identical post appeared in
most of the eparchies.
