Taras Shevchenko in his worldview orientations (to the 160th anniversary of his death)

  • Anatoliy Kolodnyi

Abstract

It is emphasized that the assessment of T. Shevchenko’s worldview orientations is too
contradictory. Thus, it is emphasized that the poet considered himself a Christian, considered religion
as an integral part of human life, and his work was permeated by the idea of the Spirit of Truth as the Truth of God. At the same time, it is shown that in Shevchenko’s works there was a reproach to God in the lack of mercy for the common people and Ukraine, which led the poet to the positions of antitheism, skepticism, free thought, rejection of theocentrism and assertion in anthropocentrism. It is concluded that Shevchenko saw his vocation in waking people from sleep, as a mediator between the people and God, called on Ukrainians to resist the oppressors and expressed confidence in God’s support for them in this struggle.
Keywords: Ukraine, God, the Truth, antitheism, free thought
