Experience of tolerance of interfaith relations in Ukraine under the conditions of Russian aggression

One of the significant factors of the unity of Ukrainians under the conditions of the war unleashed by Moscow is the observance of tolerant relations between the various religious communities existing in Ukraine. On the basis of the existing experience of interreligious communication, the nature of these relations is revealed, the ways and forms of their possible tolerance are determined. It is stated that the very event of the war changed the confessional map of Ukraine and reformatted the relations that developed in peacetime. It is noted that new forms of cooperation, a new type of interreligious relations, and at the same time new challenges for interfaith dialogue are emerging.

The problem of war in the fundamentals of the social concept of the Russian orthodox church

The analysis of the provisions on war in the Fundamentals of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church is carried out. It is revealed that this document, along with a reference to the peaceful provisions of Christian teaching (sometimes tendentially represented) and an appeal to the relevant thematic developments of Catholic theology (partially tendentially interpreted), contains considerations and instructions that can serve for grounding and justifying the use of military force beneficial to Russian-imperial interests.

Influence of modern orthodox on ukrainian identity

Historical experience demonstrates the ability of religion to both consolidate society and disintegrate it. Socio-political transformations of the latest period of Ukrainian history affected the life of Ukrainian churches. Orthodox churches of Ukraine are expressions of norms and values, as well as bearers of civic and national identity. Demonstration by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine of belonging to Ukrainian history, culture, commemoration of national heroes, active social service during the war can strengthen the national self-awareness of Ukrainians. However, the focus of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate on the Russian imperial sacral heritage, spiritual closeness to Russian Orthodoxy weakens the Ukrainian identity and is dangerous during the war.

Orientation of the Pochaiv Monastery towards Moscow (20s of the 17th – 10s of the 18th century): causes, course, results

It is found that the Orthodox Pochaiv Monastery developed in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the conditions of the parallel existence of two Kyiv metropolises – the Greek Catholic and the Orthodox, which was marked by their confrontation. Such course of events continued from the time of the Pochaiv Monastery foundation in 1597 to the beginning of the 18th century. It is also confirmed that the resubordination in 1686 of the Kyiv Orthodox Metropolis and the Pochaiv Monastery as its component from the Patriarchate of Constantinople to the Moscow Patriarchate affected the inner life of the Pochaiv fraternity. It is emphasized that the Pochaiv igumens of the studied period focused on the support of the Tsardom of Moscow. The appropriate situation is explained by their desire to preserve the monastery in Orthodox jurisdiction. It is proven that the disagreement of some of the Pochaiv monks with such a state of their monastery led to an open confrontation among the fraternity. It is justified that the loss of Moscow’s influence on Right-Bank Ukraine led in 1712 to Pochaiv Monastery transfer to the jurisdiction of the Greek Catholic Church. Also, the relationship between internal changes in the monastery and contemporary social life events was studied and the contribution of individual figures to the progress of the monastic center was analyzed. Motives, features and consequences of orientation of the Pochaiv Monastery towards the Tsardom of Moscow are determined.
